Again, this is a warm-up week for the TOC and since I got no suggestions it is not themed. Come on in for some great prizes...or at least for the $1.99 Bud Lights and to see your favorite trivia guy.

Note to John Elway: Your Happy Hour begins promptly at 8pm. Please note, there is a $75 and/or 1 hour cap on the happy hour - whichever comes first. All participants in the happy hour must be regular trivia players on your team.

After 10 Weeks...

Here are your final regular season standings for Season 2. Please note that all teams in Green qualified for the Tournament of Champions on points, and the 2 teams in Yellow qualified with the most visits. I have also posted each team's starting points for the tournament. As I mentioned before the season started, the top 4 regular season teams received 20, 15, 10, and 5 points respectively. Additionally, each team received 3 points per game played during the season.

Three quick reminders:

1. This Wednesday, 11/12, is a "normal" trivia game. I may make it themed for fun so if you have any ideas or requests let me know. The TOC will take place the following week, 11/19. As always, anyone can play in the tournament, but only the 12 teams listed on the site are playing for the big prizes. When I know what they are, I will let you know!

2. There will be no trivia night on 12/24 or 12/31 for obvious reasons! However, there WILL be trivia night the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It will most likely be a mad house so get there early. I'm seeing what I can do about getting some "extra good" prizes for that night. That will be Week 1 of Season 3. You know you don't have to work the next day so let's have some fun!

3. Finally, will someone from John Elway's team please contact me and let me know if you would prefer your Budweiser Happy Hour next week or before the TOC. I need to know as soon as possible so I can schedule the other team's happy hour.

Hello everyone...hopefully you didn't get too drunk celebrating or drowning your sorrows last night because we have a great game of trivia in store for tonight. As a reminder, this is the FINAL week of qualifying for the 2nd Tournament of Champions. There will be a normal "fun" game of trivia next week, and then the TOC will be on 11/19/08!

If you could not guess...your hint for tonight is Election '08. If you watched the election coverage last night and read some about it today, you should be good to go.

I was watching That 70's show last night and that guy from a foreign country had on a hat that you would expect a Frenchman to wear. What is odd is that he was wearing it at the kentucky Derby. The only thing that would have been more strange would be if he had on that big Mexican-style hat.

Rather, I will throw them at you randomly tonight in rapid-fire style. So study up while listening to some multi-track recordings and rest easy on your cotton pillow because it's going to be a fun night!

Week 4 Hint

Hey everybody...the standings have been updated and there is still plenty of time for anyone to make the top 10.

Your hint for this week is that one of the categories will be "#1's". You have seen this category before if you have played for a while. Typically, I'll ask questions about who is #1 (ranked or actual number) in music, tv, sports, etc. So...study up on the best of the best for tonight. Big hint: Think current stuff, not so much #1 in history.

Trivia and Beer Special - 9/17/08

Hello everyone and congratulations on making it exactly halfway to St. Patrick's Day. As a celebration, a Budweiser rep will be on hand providing some nice promotional items. But more importantly... $2 Bud Lights!

If you have not visited yet this season, today is the day to make your triumphant return (or first appearance).

Finally, since this is a celebration in honor or making it halfway to St. Pat's Day, that holiday will be the subject of one of our topics tonight. Just know a little about St. Pat's origins, etc. I recommend wikipedia!

Trivia Tonight...

Hello All,

Week 2 of the 2nd Trivia Season tonight. Only 7 teams played last week so there is plenty of room in that Top 10 for everyone. No "theme" this week - just old school general trivia.
We will most likely be starting a few minutes later than normal tonight due to a Miller Lite/Radio promotion going on but you should check that out too - I hear they are giving away some good prizes and it sounds like there will be good specials on Miller Lite which works out great for everyone (including me)!

Also...I was just thinking how much I enjoy a good Big Mac. Boy...if I only knew all there was to know about the Big Mac...(that's your hint).

Trivia Tonight, 9/3/08

Hello All,

Tonight marks the1st night of the 2nd season of Trivia at Lew's. This will again be a 10 week season with the top 10 teams qualifying and the 2 teams outside the top 10 with the most visits will be wildcards. We have already begun working on new and exciting prizes (I promise) for that tournament. A few small changes to the scoring structure of the season:

1. For every week you come to trivia during the season, you receive 3 points toward your starting tournament score. For example, if you come for all 10 weeks, your team starts with 30 points.

2. The top 4 teams in scoring for the regular season will also receive starting points in the tournament:

1st Place: 20 points
2nd Place: 15 points
3rd Place: 10 points
4th Place: 5 points

So, the possibility exists that if a team is at trivia every week and finishes the regular season in 1st, they will begin the tournament with 50 points. Do you go all-out each week and bet it all on the final questions hoping to hit a few? Or do you wager only a minimum amount and increase your total points slowly and steadily? As mentioned previously though, even if you're not in the top 4, you could still start with 30 points for attendance.

I am going to try to mix it up a little bit this season with some "themed" nights. Tonight, for example, is "sports-themed". However, this does not mean that all questions will be about sports or that you really need to know sports to do well. It's just a theme for the night. I will be accepting suggestions for other "themes" so try to think of some fun ones and either comment on this post or let me know them tonight. Also, the theme is your hint for tonight... it's the first week so you get no breaks!

No Bingo on Labor Day and Trivia Update

FYI to all the avid Bingo players - There will be no Bingo on Labor Day. Bingo will return next Monday, 9/8 starting at 8pm.

Tournament of Champions Hint

As some of you may have heard at Trivia last week, you're hint for the tournament is that one category will be made up of 4 random final questions we had in the previous 10 weeks. So get together with your team and try to remember what they were and their answers.

As a reminder, trivia is OPEN TO EVERYONE this week. Anyone can win the regular weekly prizes but only the qualified teams can win the special Tournament of Champions prizes. Next week, September 3rd, we begin our new 10-week season. More details on that to come soon.

Finally, if you have nothing better to do, come on down to Bingo tonight. Fun prizes with a dynamite number caller. The first game begins at 8pm and we'll play until around 10pm.

Drinko Bingo

A few features of Drinko Bingo (drinking "rules" are optional but make it a lot more fun)...

1. Not just your ordinary line, X, four corners designs.

2. Every time there is a "double" called, like B11, I22, N33, etc - that's a social cheers and drink.

3. If you get a number, the first person at your table to your left or right that did not get it should drink depending on the game.

4. More rules to be announced as I come up with them! (I accept all suggestions)

Trivia Hint and TOC Update!

Okay first the hint... try to know all you can about craigslist.org. Visit the site, look around, know the layout, etc.

Second, since trivia has always been a Wednesday night event...we're going to have the Tournament of Champions on a Wednesday night. Although others will be allowed to play in the game for normal weekly prizes, only the 12 qualifying teams will be eligible for the TOC prizes!!!

Be there as early as you can - I would like all 12 teams in the TOC to sit as close to the front as possible. Since this is for REAL prizes, please leave your cellphones, pda's, etc at home as they will not even be allowed at or on the tables.

Hint for 7/23...

Sorry so late but apparently Blogger was down for several hours today.

Regardless, it's another vague hint anyway!

All I have to say is that I love fast food. No matter where I get it, whether it be BK, McD's, Wendys or Arbys, I always get the small fries. I know all about the nutrition they give me - though it's not the calories I keep an eye on...it's something else.

Hello all. As you know, the Home Run Derby took place this week. So, my hint to you is...learn everything you can about home runs in the 2008 season.

As for tonight's prize...

1st Place will be 4 dugout box seats and a reserved parking pass for the July 24th Royals game against the 2nd place (barely) Tampa Bay Devil Rays. These seats are on the aisle and only about 15 rows back from the dugout!!!

Another note...In August, we will have a few pairs of Chiefs pre-season tickets being given away. Each ticket has an $85 face value!

Hint for this week...

Sorry for the late clue this week. I've been working on a spreadsheet at work that has kept me busy. If only I knew the functions that could a) Count the number of cells in a range that are not empty; b) Return the day of the month, a number from 1 to 31; c) Return the largest value in a set of values; and d) Join several strings into one text string, my life would be much easier.

PS. You're lucky to get a hint this week...one more week of a high score over 300 and that's it! WE ARE ADULTS is ruining the grading curve for everyone else!

This week has been much more relaxing than last week. All I did yesterday was sit around and count my Madisons - I thought I was rich! Then I went to the gas station and didn't even fill my tank on a Grant. I tell you what, they nickel and dime you everywhere!

New Standings and Important Note

First of all, please take a look at the standings above. You will notice that I have highlighted the top 10 teams in green. As mentioned previously, the "qualifiers" for the tournament of champions are subject to change and we made a change to include top 10 in points plus 2 wild card teams (up from top 8).

Second, and probably most important, I am going to restate the rules of competition again:

NO CELL PHONES, PDAs, PORTABLE INTERNET DEVICES, ETC... SHOULD BE USED IN ANY CAPACITY TO ASSIST IN ANSWERING TRIVIA QUESTIONS AT ANY TIME.

Please remember, while we there are prizes involved, the game is played first and foremost for fun. I really do not want to have to monitor teams and it seems most all are cooperating with the rules. However, I have noticed a few utilizing outside sources for answers. If I have reason to believe you are using electronic assistance, you will be disqualified for the week and ineligible for participation in the Tournament of Champions. As a note to all teams NOT using performance-enhancing devices, please do not hesitate to let me know if you suspect cheating - your comments will be kept confidential.

Okay, that's all my preaching for the day. We just want to keep this a fun and fair event.

What a day...

Sorry I was so late with the clue...it's been a crazy day. First I went to the dentist where I received a ton of nitrous oxide. It made me so dizzy that I put sodium chloride on my cereal. Things just got worse when I went outside and a car drove by spewing clouds of carbon monoxide. Not only could I not breath, but is smelled like sulfur dioxide. Hopefully things will improve once I figure out how to abbreviate the elements of my compound problems.

Big Announcement!!!

I will be revealing this announcement tonight...but for you frequent visitors:

Ladies and Gentlemen...Trivia night at Lew's Grill and Bar just got a little more interesting. Starting with the results tonight, I will be tracking all teams' Total Points each week. The 8 teams that score the most total points between now and August 13th - that's ten weeks of trivia - will be eligible to play in the Tournament of Champions in late August. Additionally, if your team does not make it on points alone, you may still be eligible as we will also include the two teams who come to trivia most often over the course of those 10 weeks but have not already qualified based on points alone. This gives us a total of 10 teams.*

And now for the best part...at the Tournament of Champions will be giving away $1,000 worth of cash and prizes.

I will be tracking scores based on team name so choose your team names wisely tonight. Also starting tonight, I will be asking for a weekly roster of your team. In order to be eligible for the Tournament of Champions, every team member must have attended at least half of their team's "regular season" games. No ringers will be allowed at the tournament. Finally, any team that is caught cheating in any trivia game by using cell phones, the Internet, or any other information outside the bar will not be eligible for the tournament.

It seemed like it may rain so I went outside to check my instrument that measures air pressure. It was really cold for the summer with the combined cooling effect of wind and temperature.
Fortunately, I don't live near the western North Pacific Ocean or I would be worried about that big cyclone heading that way.
Ah...This kind of weather really makes me miss the fine dust or salt particles dispersed through a portion of the atmosphere which reduce visibility...

What a game last week...

It took me 5 days to process the incredible turn of events I witnessed last Wednesday...

Sitting in 6th place with only the last question to go, Viagra was concerned about their performance. They knew their flaccid, dysfunctional play had put them in this position and they needed to really get it up for the last question. Needless to say, their blood was flowing when they found out they were one of only three teams to get the final answer correct. It was a long, hard road, but they somehow pulled it out!

On a side note, I may have an exciting announcement to make either this week or next...depends on when we get everything finalized so stay tuned.

Mo' Money...

Hello Trivia Players... I just received word that we are going to add a little more prize money to the pot tonight. 1st Place will pay a $35 gift card (up from $25) and 2nd will pay a $20 gift card (up from $10). Also a quick note that tonight I am going to try to keep the flow of the game going a bit better by limiting the time per question for answering. I'll explain tonight, but basically I'm going to give about a minute and then make one round to collect answers. This should keep things from dragging - and keep me from too much exercise.

When studying your Spanish...

I suggest going out for a hamburger. Then head to the library with your girlfriend. After you're done, go out and get drunk.

Sloppy Sets. For those of you that don't know or haven't figured it out, their trivia team name is the same as their volleyball team name. I just found that out last week and now it actually makes sense to me. I kept thinking they were just saying Sloppy Seconds wrong but now I know better.
