Season 8 Champs and Season 9 Week 1 Hint

Congratulations to the Tarp Crew Heroes! They pulled it off yet again with a come from behind victory. Can they be beat this season or should we just make the plaque for the trophy now?

Season IX starts tonight! We will start the season with the same rules and scoring structure as last season but as always, I'm open to suggestions and don't have a problem making changes as we go. Since it's a little bit late warning about tonight being Week 1, you can still earn the 10-week bonus even if your team doesn't make it tonight but you do miss out on the weekly points and prizes.

Your hint for tonight is to take a look at some of the more popular G n R songs.

By the way, ever wonder if you could beat the trivia guy in trivia? I will be there early tonight to play a few warm up rounds of Buzztime trivia - new to Lew's! It's not the same as live trivia, but it will give you a chance to challenge the master!!!

The Time Has Come for the TOC

Phil Collins and Genesis said it best... "Tonight's the night, the night...ooohoooh"

It's Tournament of Champions night. You all know your starting scores as they are posted above. As usual, no hint this week other than one of the categories tonight is a throwback category from a previous round this season.

Enhanced cell phone rules: No cell phones at the table in view at all. If you need to make a call or text, you need to leave the bar and go outside. I don't want to see any phones...even after your answers are in for a round. Any team seen with a phone on is out of the TOC regardless of what they were doing on it.

I don't know the exact prizes for tonight but I'm sure there will be some fun ones. Most important, as we all know, is your team's name on the trophy and choice of trivia table for next season.

1 Week Left to Warm Up!

I'll be honest, I don't really have a hint for you today. But, overwhelmingly (from the two or three team suggestions I received), 80's trivia was requested for this week since it is for fun. So there will be a few categories related to this topic but don't worry, they are "gettable".

Other than that...just come prepared to have fun and drink some beers!

Season 8 Final Standings and hint for tonight

Above you will see the final standings for Season 8. You will also find each team's starting points for the upcoming Tournament of Champions. All teams above are eligible for the tournament. Teams in green got in on total points while teams in yellow are in for most weeks played (outside top 10 in points).

It looks like the TOC will occur on June 23rd due to a home Royals game on June 16th. This means we have two weeks of "fun" trivia for our normal prizes ($40 gift card for 1st, $20 for 2nd).

Tonight, we will also be giving away Waldo Crawldo tickets to the 1st place team (up to 5). The Waldo Crawldo is also your hint for the week! If you don't win the tickets, remember you can buy them for $5 tonight at Lew's.

If you have some fun ideas for next week's game (theme, idea for categories, etc) bring them with you tonight. It would be cool to do something different for one week!

Also, start thinking about rules changes or suggestions you have for next season and let me know what you thought of our changes this season.

That's right, this is a confirmation that there will be trivia tonight. Remember, it is Cinco de Mayo and while it is not recognized nationally in Mexico, we love it here in the U.S.

Also, expect a little larger crowd than normal so get there as early as you can.

Season 8 Rules and Week 2 Hint

Hello All!

Here are the rules and scoring set-up for this season. A few changes so make sure you take a look:

1. As always, no cheating. No using cell phones, computers or phoning a friend for answers. While we generally utilize the honor's system since this is bar trivia and it's pretty pathetic to cheat, I am also looking for cheating and so are the honest teams. If your team is caught cheating, you are out of the game and not eligible for the Tournament of Champions (TOC). So...please make sure your answers are handed in before you text your Mom back to tell her you may be home a little late.

2. For the regular season (not the TOC), we will try something new for the final question. From this week on, you may wager up to 50 points or your team's total score if that is lower than 50. While we want to keep the excitement of a wager, we also want to make sure we don't diminish the value of playing well all game. In the TOC you will be allowed to wager all the points you have. We'll review this policy again after this season.

3. Earning points for the TOC:

Attendance points:

• 5 points for every week your team attends during the regular season and 20 bonus points if your team is there all 10 weeks. Total points possible = 70. Note: Since this announcement is coming out now and not before the season started, you may earn the 20 bonus points for attendance Weeks 2 - 10.

Regular season standings earn the following starting points for the tournament:

• 40 points for 1st place
• 30 points for 2nd place
• 25 points for 3rd place
• 20 points for 4th place
• 10 points for 5th place

4. HAVE FUN, DRINK LOTS OF CHEAP BEER, AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT REVERSE HAPPY HOUR

That's right, tonight's the night we separate players from the pretenders.
Will "Insert Clever Name Here" win their first TOC after leading the entire regular season?
Will "Full Frontal Lobe" have enough brain activity to triumph?
Will "Mediocre at Best" be good enough to win?
Will "The Bald Kegels" soar over the competition?
Will a new-look "We Are Adults" team claim another championship?
Will "Tarp Crew Heroes" cover the field and repeat as winners?
Will we have a "Situation" on the trophy?
After it's over, will we hear people saying "Whatever Bitches"?
Will the one week winner "Butt Scratchas" show up for the big game?
Will I tire of writing these cheezy one-liners and give up after this one? "For Fuck's Sake" I will!

Your starting scores are still posted above so make sure you take note of that. As with the previous TOCs, there is no hint for this week. However, we will have a "throwback" category that will come directly from a previous week within the season. .

Just a reminder that anyone is allowed to play trivia tonight, including new teams, but only the 13 teams above are eligible for TOC prizes. All others will be playing for a gift card.

ENHANCED CELL PHONE RULES:
I just want to be clear on the enhanced "no cheating" policy for the TOC. You all know that no cheating is allowed all season, but the rules are even more strongly enforced for the tournament so here they are:

1. All cell phones must be in your pocket, purse or car. You may not have a cell phone in view, even if it is turned off. And just so you know, it will not just be me looking for violations.

2. If you need to take a call or text someone, you must do it outside and you are not allowed to return to your group until that round's answers are turned in. To ensure you are not penalized, please let me know when you are exiting to use your phone.

3. If a cell phone is seen at or on your table, you immediately forfeit that category's points. EVEN IF THE CELL PHONE IS TURNED OFF AND NOT BEING USED. Keep them out of sight and FYI, using cell phones under your table is also not allowed.

4. If there is a cell phone in use at your table, even if it is not for the purpose of cheating, your team is immediately disqualified.

It sounds strict, but this is the Tournament of Champions and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. I think everyone can live without their phones for two 45-minute segments! If you're worried about it, DO NOT BRING YOUR PHONE INTO THE BAR.

Okay...now that we got the rules out of the way, let's remember to have a great time tonight.
I have no idea what the prizes are but I can guarantee a good time. There will be no trivia next week (St. Pat's Day) so get your fill tonight!

Trivia Tonight and TOC Details!

All 10 weeks are complete and as usual, we have a "fun week" tonight before the Tournament of Champions next week. Prizes for tonight are $40 gift card for 1st and $20 for 2nd.


As a reminder, posted below are the tournament specifics for next week:

Only the Top 10 scoring teams for the 10-week period, and 2 "wild card" teams with the most weeks of attendance are eligible for the Tournament of Champions prizes.

For every week you come to trivia during the season, you receive 3 points toward your starting tournament score. For example, if you come for all 10 weeks, your team starts with 30 points.

The top 4 teams in scoring for the regular season will also receive starting points in the tournament:

• 1st Place: 20 points
• 2nd Place: 15 points
• 3rd Place: 10 points
• 4th Place: 5 points

As for tonight...your hint is guitar chords. And don't forget that there is a KU/K-State game at 7pm tonight. We should still be able to start close to on time but try to get there early to get a table!

Fun Week - 2/17/10

Just a reminder, tonight's scores will not count toward the Tournament of Champions qualifying. Also, we will be starting late tonight but hopefully Mizzou can get out to a huge lead (or lose by a lot depending on who you cheer for) so we can get started as early as possible. As usual with the later start, I will get through the game as quickly as possible AND there are still $40 and $20 gift cards as prizes for 1st and 2nd.

We're going to have fun tonight so don't leave me hangin'! The late start also allows you to take advantage of the late night happy hour - 1/2 price apps! And you know you are tired of watching the Olympics anyway...

What's up Trivia Fans?

Another few announcements this week...

Three upcoming weeks of KU/MU/K-State (no particular order) games "interfere" with trivia night and they affect trivia in the following ways on the following days:

2/3 - Trivia cancelled. This is due to two games scheduled for 8pm as well as me being out of town! Please don't cry, I'll miss you too.

2/17 - Trivia delayed. There is an 8pm MU game scheduled. Since trivia is delayed and I don't think it's fair to require you to be out later than usual, this week will not count toward the TOC. Trivia will begin immediately following the MU game - as close to 10pm as possible and normal prizes will be awarded.

3/3 - Trivia should be on time but may have a very slight delay. KU vs. K-State at 7pm. This should be the "calm before the TOC storm" week so still a good time to come out and sharpen your skills.

Trivia Tonight! Season 7, Week 6

All,

Several important announcements today:

1. With the perfect storm of KU and MU both playing tonight at 8pm, trivia will be delayed until after the game(s). I would estimate a 10:00-10:20pm start time.

2. I will make my best effort to get through the game efficiently but will need your answers in a timely manner in order to do this. Therefore, I will make one round to collect answers from your teams. If you answer is not ready at the time, you will need to run it up to me.

3. I am guessing the bar will be very crowded and tables will not be easy to come by. Like them or not, you may be better off getting there early to eat some dinner and watch the games so that you guarantee yourself a table. Some folks may abandon tables after the game but you can never be sure.

4. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the late-night happy hour Lew's offers on Wednesday nights!!! Half-price apps and drink specials starting at 11pm!!!

5. Lew's trivia is entering the new decade with an upgrade. Starting tonight, I have a new PA system, so be ready for a few audio questions to go along with the high quality questions you already know and love!

Blizzard Trivia - 1/6/10

I have every intention of running trivia tonight as planned. Unless I cannot get out of my driveway, I'll be there. If something comes up, I will post a message on this site - otherwise, assume we are a go!
